its a perfect description…..pure fun, fast fun, random food, pure flavour with flavour on top….
there are absolutely no rules, I’m free to play…..drop the fricken boundaries and go forth………and eat
here’s my story –
I have been food and photograph obsessed for as long as I know. I spent my days as a small child on the weekends watching old Hollywood movies and baking. The other kids were playing sports whilst I was mixing vanilla cakes and burning casseroles. My grandfather gave me a mix-master at 8, and its been intense ever since. Suffice to say I have never looked back.
My father lived in San Francisco, Puerto Rico, and Miami, Florida, so as a teen I spent my holidays visiting restaurants, stuffing my face and studying the local food. Later, I owned a restaurant called ‘Pond’, in Kings Cross Australia, specialising in Modern Australian fusion cuisine. The restaurant kick started the careers of Guillaume Brahimi (‘Guillaume at Bennelong’) and Peter Gilmore (‘Quay’), both in Australia’s top 5, and winners of multiple chefs’ hats. Children were born in this chaos and my marriage dissolved. The mix master of life went up a few notches.it has never stopped.
Did I mention at the same time I have been in the film industries camera department, for thirty years? I’ve traveled and experienced the world extensively in the most visual way. I specialise in extreme cars photography, and beauty, which has me hanging out of helicopters in extreme ways one day, and the next day I am shooting some massive celebrity in Asia, whilst eating in the best restaurants at night.
As a by-product, this makes me one of the only female cinematographers in the world. When I started directing it made me even rarer. I am a private chef as well, feeding private people with gorgeous food.….so super rare….
So now after everything that has been and gone…….I’m a cook that shoots. I blog what I cook, I blog where I go, I blog what I eat, I shoot everything in sight. I run two teenagers on my own, I try to catch up with friends, I dream of soft tomato sandwiches in far away places and soft pillows at night, and at the same time have as much fun as physically possible. It is always extreme so there is always a great story.everything is always fresh and I’m on the lookout for it.
This fusion of experience, comes out in my work and the complexity of life makes my food and pictures very refined, clean and simple. This is my peace in the world of absolute chaos.
i want to move forward with a future with a new dictionary of fresh fresh and fresh ideas.
